Jonathan Coleus, a 29-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on July 26, 2020, in Mangonia Park, West Palm Beach, Florida. The incident occurred at a Sunoco gas station on 45th Street, where Coleus was fatally shot by his girlfriend, Latisha Latoya Smith. According to reports, the shooting happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. Surveillance footage captured the events leading up to the shooting, showing Smith approaching Coleus with a gun.
Despite Smith's claims that Coleus had attacked her during an argument, the video evidence contradicted her account, depicting her as the aggressor.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation into the incident. Detectives revealed that Coleus was sitting in the driver's seat of a van when Smith, driving a Volkswagen Passat, blocked his vehicle from leaving.
