The incident occurred at the home of her boyfriend, Hayden Wik, who was 17 years old at the time. According to reports, Hayden Wik accidentally shot Autumn while mishandling a firearm in his bedroom. The bullet struck Autumn under her left eye, causing severe bleeding. Despite efforts to save her, including CPR performed by Hayden's mother, Lori Wik, Autumn succumbed to her injuries.
The case led to significant legal proceedings. Hayden Wik was arrested and charged with manslaughter and possessing a firearm as a minor. His mother, Lori Wik, faced charges for purchasing and allowing a minor to own a firearm. Both Hayden and Lori Wik accepted plea deals.
