Jim-Travis Gray, a 23-year-old Black male, was tragically shot and killed on April 25, 2021, in Pahokee, Florida. The incident occurred on the 200 block of Daniel Place, where Gray was walking with his mother. According to reports, Gray had unresolved issues with three local men, which may have contributed to the fatal encounter. On the day of the shooting, Gray and his mother were approached by two men, one of whom was identified as Lanorris Lee, 33. Without any verbal exchange, the men opened fire, resulting in Gray's death. His mother, who was present at the scene, miraculously escaped unharmed.
Gray's death led to a significant investigation by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Lanorris Lee was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail at the Palm Beach County Jail. The investigation revealed that earlier in the day, one of the men involved had attempted to hit Gray with his vehicle. Additionally, Gray had been involved in a separate shooting incident at a local store, where he reportedly shot another man who survived but did not cooperate with investigators.
Gray was a former athlete, having played as a running back for Pahokee High School's state championship football team in 2016. His untimely death marked the 18th reported homicide in Palm Beach County for the year 2021 and the first in Pahokee. The community mourned the loss of a young man who had once brought pride to his school and town through his athletic achievements.
