Erica Yvonne Hoffman, aged 33, tragically lost her life on August 8, 2022, in Edgewater, Florida. The incident occurred during a Narcotics Anonymous meeting held at a non-profit organization called Bridge the Gap. The meeting, which had about 20 attendees, was abruptly interrupted when Quinton Francis Hunter, 49, entered the building armed with a gun. Hunter immediately shot and killed Ian Lee Greenfield, 59, who was also present at the meeting. The motive behind the shooting was believed to be jealousy, as Hunter was reportedly angry over a relationship between Greenfield and his ex-girlfriend, Erica Hoffman.
After shooting Greenfield, Hunter held Hoffman hostage, striking her with the handgun. Despite the efforts of negotiators and SWAT team members who arrived at the scene, there was no response from inside the building. Eventually, authorities breached the building and discovered the bodies of Greenfield, Hoffman, and Hunter. Both Greenfield and Hoffman had suffered gunshot wounds and lacerations. Hunter had also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, completing the murder-suicide.
The investigation revealed that Hunter had a violent criminal history, including weapon charges from out of state. The police suggested that the motive for the killings was rooted in Hunter's anger and jealousy over the relationship between Hoffman and Greenfield. The tragic event left the community in shock, and the police extended their condolences to the families of the victims. The case was closed with the death of the perpetrator, Quinton Hunter, who was no longer a threat to anyone else.
