Shane Eugene Clements, a 41-year-old resident of Altoona, Florida, tragically lost his life on August 25, 2022. Born on May 18, 1981, in Kendallville, Indiana, Shane was known for his passion for tinkering with vehicles, his love for the Chicago Bears, and his enjoyment of NASCAR. He moved to Florida in 2012 and worked as a truck driver for Road Master. Shane was described as a kind-hearted individual who never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need.

On the evening of August 25, 2022, Shane Clements and David Thomas Mikell, 34, were found dead from gunshot wounds at Mikell's home on Pennsylvania Avenue in Altoona. The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting the shooting around 9 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of both men. The incident was not considered a random act, and the suspects did not reside at the residence.

The investigation led to the arrest of Roger Myles Gilbert, a 35-year-old man from Alabama, who was already in custody in Volusia County on unrelated charges. Gilbert was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Shane Clements and David Mikell. The motive for the killings has not been disclosed by the authorities. Gilbert was apprehended after fleeing a traffic stop in Ormond Beach, where he crashed his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. He was found with a stolen firearm and was subsequently charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed firearm, and resisting an officer without violence.

The case remains under investigation, and the Lake County Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with information to come forward. Shane Clements' death has left a significant impact on his family and friends, who remember him as a loving father, son, and friend. His untimely demise has brought attention to the ongoing issue of gun violence and the need for community vigilance in preventing such tragedies.
