Jermaine Anthony Moultrie, a 34-year-old resident of Winter Garden, Florida, tragically lost his life on October 29, 2022. Known affectionately as "Bangie" to his family and friends, Jermaine was a devoted father, son, and friend who was deeply cherished by those who knew him. He was employed as a cook and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his son, Javian. On the morning of his death, Winter Garden police responded to a shots fired call on Mildred Dixon Way. Upon arrival, they found Jermaine lying on the ground with possible gunshot injuries. He was transported to Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into Jermaine's death revealed that the incident was being treated as a homicide. Neighbors reported that an argument over gambling might have led to the deadly shooting. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jerell Kwmane Lightbourne, was believed to be in a nearby residence. This led to an hours-long SWAT standoff, during which police surrounded the house. However, the house was found to be empty. During the standoff, gunfire was exchanged between two silver cars in the vicinity. One of the cars, a silver Chevrolet sedan, fled the scene and later crashed on State Road 429. The driver, Terry Demps, was apprehended and found with two firearms in the vehicle, one of which was stolen. However, his involvement in the shooting remained unclear.
Jerell Kwmane Lightbourne eventually turned himself in to the Orange County Jail and was charged with first-degree murder. Lightbourne had a criminal history, having been released from prison in July 2022 after serving six years for an occupied burglary case. Jermaine Moultrie also had a history of drug-related arrests, but it was not clear if their pasts were connected to the incident. The investigation into Jermaine's death continued as authorities sought to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and determine the exact motive behind the tragic incident.
