Shameka Lockett, aged 39, tragically passed away on December 24, 2022, in Lakeland, Florida. Her death was the result of a fatal shooting, which occurred at her residence on West Patterson Street. The investigation quickly identified
Ronald Lockett, Shameka's husband, as the primary suspect. Ronald, who was 39 years old at the time, had a history of domestic violence and was on pretrial release for aggravated battery domestic violence and driving without a license. Despite a no-contact order, Ronald violated the conditions of his release by picking Shameka up from her workplace and driving her home on the morning of December 24th. According to family members, an argument ensued between the couple, followed by a gunshot.
During the search of the residence, detectives found 27 rounds of ammunition and Ronald's identification card. Additionally, a container with a white powder, later identified as Ecstasy, was discovered. Ronald was located the following day at a different residence in Lakeland. He admitted to picking Shameka up and taking her home but denied any involvement in her death. Despite his denial, Ronald was initially charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of Ecstasy, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of pretrial release conditions.
Following the autopsy results, Ronald Lockett was formally charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Polk County Jail without bond. The case has drawn significant attention due to the tragic circumstances and the history of domestic violence, highlighting the ongoing issues related to domestic abuse and the enforcement of protective orders.
