John A. McClain, a 38-year-old deputy with the Colusa County Sheriff's Department, tragically lost his life on September 17, 1870, while performing his duties. On that fateful day, Deputy McClain was tasked with serving a writ of restitution to evict squatters from a property in Antelope Valley, approximately 27 miles northwest of Colusa, California.
