On October 8, 1957, Officer Robert E. "Bob" Reed, a 36-year-old member of the California Highway Patrol, tragically lost his life in the line of duty near Ventura, California. Officer Reed had stopped and arrested a motorist for a traffic violation after a high-speed pursuit along U.S. Highway 101.
