Sergeant Robert Lee Mikesell, a dedicated officer with the Calipatria Police Department in California, tragically lost his life in the line of duty on August 3, 1972. At the age of 45, Sergeant Mikesell was responding to a series of shots fired calls throughout the evening. While investigating these incidents, he stopped a vehicle on California 111 at around 3 am.
