Arthur Edward Dunn, a 43-year-old officer with the California Highway Patrol, tragically lost his life on July 9, 1977. On that fateful day, Officer Dunn had arrested a suspect for drunk driving and was transporting him to jail. During the transport, the suspect, who had managed to conceal a small-caliber handgun, shot Officer Dunn from behind.
