On August 9, 1979, Special Agent Charles W. Elmore was tragically killed in the line of duty at the FBI office in El Centro, California. Elmore, along with his colleague Special Agent J. Robert Porter, was shot by an assailant who had entered the office under the pretense of discussing a Freedom of Information Act request.
