Eugene N. Luther, a Deputy Sheriff with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, tragically lost his life on April 25, 1980, at the age of 50. On that fateful evening, Deputy Luther was off duty and had just left a restaurant in the northern area of Sacramento. As he approached his car in the parking lot around 10 p.m., he was confronted by an armed individual who demanded all his money.
