Patrolman Michael D. Avila, aged 37, tragically lost his life on November 15, 1981, in Parlier, California. Avila, who had served with the Parlier Police Department for eight years, was responding to a call at a local bar regarding reports of two men armed with guns. Upon arrival, Avila and his partner attempted to disarm one of the suspects. During this confrontation, a second suspect opened fire, fatally wounding Avila.
