Sergeant Vernon Thomas Vanderpool, a dedicated officer with the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department, tragically lost his life on February 14, 1994, at the age of 57. The incident occurred during a department staff training seminar at the Holiday Inn in Torrance, California. An armed gunman burst into the conference room on the 12th floor, attempting a robbery.
