The incident occurred at a Shell gas station in Los Alamitos, where Huber, a reputed member of the white supremacist gang 'Orange County Skins,' encountered Pedro Jesse Sanchez, a member of the 'Under No Authority' gang. The confrontation escalated when Huber raised his hand in a Nazi-style salute, prompting Sanchez to shoot him twice.
Huber succumbed to his injuries shortly after the altercation.
The investigation into Huber's death revealed a history of animosity between the two men. A week prior to the shooting, Huber and Sanchez had engaged in a physical altercation, with Huber reportedly getting the better of Sanchez. On the day of the incident, Sanchez and his friends followed Huber's car to the gas station, where the fatal confrontation took place. After the shooting, Sanchez fled to New Mexico, where he remained a fugitive for several years. During his time on the run, Sanchez committed another murder in Albuquerque, for which he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
In June 2006, Sanchez was convicted of first-degree murder and street terrorism for Huber's death. The court found that Sanchez had killed Huber for the benefit of his gang, UNA. During the trial, it was revealed that Sanchez had a tattoo of 'Anaheim' on the back of his neck, symbolizing his gang affiliation. The prosecution argued that the murder was an act of retaliation and gang-related violence. Sanchez was sentenced to 29 years to life in prison for the murder of Chad Huber.
