Maria Hsiao, a 21-year-old art student from Palo Alto, California, was tragically shot and killed just after midnight on June 10, 2001, outside the Q Cafe nightclub. Maria was celebrating her 21st birthday with her older sister and friends when the incident occurred. The group was standing outside the club when a gunshot rang out, striking Maria in the head. Despite immediate efforts by police and paramedics to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries on the operating table.
