Osiel Hipolito, a 20-year-old Latino male, tragically lost his life on September 3, 2005, in East Compton, California. Hipolito, who was a U.S. Navy sailor on leave from a tour of duty in Iraq, was shot while shopping at a swap meet mall on South Atlantic Avenue near Compton Boulevard. The incident began when Hipolito was attacked by suspected gang members.
