Sergeant Ervin Julius Romans II, aged 43, tragically lost his life on March 21, 2009, in Oakland, California. He was a dedicated member of the Oakland Police Department and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. On the day of his death, Sergeant Romans, along with Sergeant Daniel Sakai, was part of a SWAT team attempting to apprehend a suspect who had earlier in the day fatally shot Sergeant Mark Dunakin and mortally wounded Officer John Hege during a traffic stop.
