This decision was influenced by Fraga's association with a juvenile female gang member who had been beaten as part of a gang ritual. Fraga, upon learning of the beating, confronted Lopez and another gang member, Juan Salazar Jr., leading to the fatal confrontation.
The investigation into the murders led to the arrest of Juan Salazar Jr. and Enrique Lopez. Salazar, who was 21 at the time, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, along with gang and gun enhancements. He was sentenced to 100 years to life in prison, with his first parole hearing scheduled for the summer of 2112. Lopez, on the other hand, was convicted of second-degree murder and received a sentence of 25 years to life, plus an additional 10 years for his role in the beating of the juvenile gang member.
