Kevin Andrew Tonn, a 35-year-old police officer with the Galt Police Department in California, tragically lost his life on January 15, 2013. Officer Tonn was responding to a burglary call at an apartment complex in the 200 block of F Street around 11:20 am. Upon arrival, a witness directed him to a suspect nearby. As Officer Tonn approached the suspect, the individual produced a handgun and fired a single shot, striking Officer Tonn. The suspect then fired at other responding officers before taking his own life. Officer Tonn was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Tonn's death was a significant loss to the community and the law enforcement family. He had served with the Galt Police Department for three and a half years and was a U.S. Army veteran. Before joining the police force, he had also served as a firefighter and medic. He is survived by his parents and sister.
The investigation into Officer Tonn's death revealed that the suspect acted alone and had no known accomplices. The suspect's identity was not widely publicized, and no further arrests were made in connection with the incident.
