Maurice Emmanuel Marshall, a 33-year-old man, was tragically shot and killed on July 4, 2014, in the Vermont Square neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, the incident occurred in the 600 block of West 50th Street. Maurice was standing near a parked vehicle with another individual when a light-colored sedan drove by, made a U-turn, and approached them.
A person inside the car shouted a gang slogan, and a passenger in the vehicle opened fire, striking Maurice multiple times. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Maurice was pronounced dead at 11:09 a.m. The other man present at the scene was not injured.
The investigation into Maurice's death was handled by the Los Angeles Police Department's Criminal Gang Homicide Division. Detective Sal LaBarbera, who was involved in the case, noted that the shooting appeared to be gang-related. The authorities urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers.
