Ernesto Topete, a 21-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on July 4, 2014, in Compton, California. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on the 1100 block of West 131st Street. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Topete was standing in front of a home when a vehicle drove by, and an individual inside the vehicle opened fire. Another man was also injured in the shooting but survived. Topete was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m.
