Ronnie Montalvo, a 41-year-old resident of Laton, California, tragically lost his life on the night of November 29, 2014. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM when Fresno County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired on Gonser Street, south of Summit Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies found Montalvo lying on the ground, having been shot multiple times. Witnesses reported that Montalvo had been conversing with the driver of a parked car when the driver suddenly pulled out a gun and shot him. The assailant then ran over Montalvo with the vehicle before fleeing the scene. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his early to mid-30s, with short hair and a mustache, driving a dark-colored late 1990s to early 2000s Dodge Neon with poor paint quality.
The investigation into Montalvo's death revealed that the suspect's vehicle was last seen heading east on Riverdale Avenue. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the suspect remained at large. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office urged anyone with information about the homicide to contact Detective Mark Chapman or Valley Crime Stoppers. This case marked the 14th homicide in Fresno County for the year 2014.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an unrelated stabbing incident occurred among the crowd that had gathered at the scene. Fortunately, the individual who was stabbed did not sustain serious injuries. The community of Laton was left in shock and mourning as they grappled with the violent loss of one of their own.
