Miguel Antonio Romero, aged 46, was tragically shot to death on April 28, 2015, in Littlerock, California. Romero was delivering rolls of corn for animals when he was ambushed and shot five times in the head and once in the wrist. His lifeless body was discovered inside his Nissan truck by his wife, who had become concerned after he failed to respond to her calls and messages.
The brutal nature of the crime left the community in shock and prompted a thorough investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The investigation quickly identified Ana Rosenda Mancio, also known as Ana Delgado, as a prime suspect. Mancio, who was having an affair with Romero, was seen near the crime scene around the time of the murder. Cellular phone records placed her in the vicinity, and a witness reported seeing someone resembling Mancio in a vehicle near the scene shortly before the gunshots were heard. The motive for the murder remained unclear, but it was known that Romero's wife had confronted both Mancio and her husband about the affair just days before the killing.
Following the murder, Mancio fled the country, traveling through Mexico to Guatemala under the pretense of a family emergency. She remained there for six months before returning to the United States via Florida. In July 2016, a warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was apprehended in Florida a year later while attempting to purchase firearms. The arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the case, leading to her extradition to California to face charges.
In June 2018, Mancio was convicted of first-degree murder for the killing of Miguel Romero. The court proceedings revealed the calculated and vicious nature of the crime, with the prosecution presenting compelling evidence of Mancio's involvement. She was sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison, a verdict that brought some measure of justice to Romero's grieving family. The case underscored the devastating impact of infidelity and the lengths to which individuals might go to conceal their actions.
