Garry Roosevelt Harris, a 60-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was tragically shot and killed on June 14, 2015. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of East Firestone Boulevard, outside a liquor store. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a gunshot victim at approximately 8:25 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies found Harris with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower leg and a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where Harris was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m.
Witnesses reported that the 19-year-old, identified as a local gang member, had just exited the store and was conversing with Harris when two black men approached and began shooting. Investigators suspect that the shooters were rival gang members targeting the 19-year-old. The gunfire was so intense that a stray bullet shattered the rear window of a passing car, narrowly missing the driver and his two small children. Fortunately, the children were unharmed, though the 4-year-old boy sustained minor injuries from flying glass.
