Kevin Lamarr Martin Sr., a 45-year-old resident of Hawthorne, California, tragically lost his life on November 12, 2015. Martin was standing with his cousin in the driveway outside his apartment on Doty Avenue when a man drove up and began shooting. Both men were taken to a nearby hospital, where Martin was placed on life support. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
His cousin, who was also shot, survived with a gunshot wound to his arm.
The investigation into Martin's death revealed that he and his cousin were victims of a broader crime spree. The suspect, John Revels, a 64-year-old man from Lancaster, was identified as the shooter. Revels was seen leaving the scene in a gold-colored Jaguar. Following the shooting in Hawthorne, Revels continued his violent spree, driving to the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles, where he allegedly shot and killed his brother, Paul Revels. Paul was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead two days later.
Revels' crime spree did not end there. He drove to Las Vegas, where he had acquaintances, but no further violence was reported. On his way back to California, Revels' car got a flat tire on the 15 Freeway. When California Highway Patrol officers approached his vehicle, Revels shot himself. Investigators later discovered that Revels had also killed his girlfriend, Cornelia Adrienne McIntosh, at their home in Lancaster. She was found with fatal gunshot wounds.
Authorities are still trying to determine the connection between Martin and Revels. It is believed that the two men were acquaintances, but the exact nature of their relationship remains unclear. Martin was known to be the primary caregiver for his disabled mother, who was inside their apartment at the time of the shooting. The motive behind Revels' actions remains a mystery, as he left a note that simply stated, "I'm sorry and I leave everything to my son."
The investigation into Martin's death and the subsequent murders committed by Revels involved multiple law enforcement agencies. The Hawthorne Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and California Highway Patrol all played roles in piecing together the events of that tragic day.
