Keyon Lamar Childs, a 26-year-old man from Los Angeles, California, was tragically killed on June 23, 2016. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the 900 block of East Slauson Avenue in the Florence neighborhood. Childs was traveling east in a silver Infiniti with two other individuals when a large, dark-colored van approached. A person inside the van began shooting at Childs' vehicle, causing it to crash into a light pole about 30 yards away.
Childs was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m. the following day.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an investigation into the shooting, identifying the need to locate more than one suspect involved in the incident. The suspects included both the driver and the passenger of the van. Despite efforts to gather information, the case remained unsolved for some time, with the LAPD urging anyone with information to come forward. They provided contact details for the Newton Division detectives and encouraged anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation into Childs' death highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement in solving such cases, particularly when dealing with multiple suspects and limited eyewitness accounts. The community's cooperation was deemed crucial in advancing the investigation, but details about any arrests, suspects, or subsequent legal proceedings were not readily available in the public domain. The case of Keyon Lamar Childs remains a poignant reminder of the ongoing issues of gun violence and the impact it has on families and communities.
