Gilbert Esparza, a 35-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on July 9, 2016, while riding his bicycle along the Los Angeles River bike trail near River Drive and Southhall Lane in Bell, California. The incident occurred around 1:12 a.m., when Bell police officers responded to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found Esparza unresponsive on the bike path near his bicycle.
