Deon Robinson, a 47-year-old resident of Carson, California, was tragically killed on October 7, 2017, in Long Beach. The incident occurred around midnight in the 1200 block of East 56th Street. Long Beach police responded to reports of gunshots in the area and found Robinson with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another victim, a 36-year-old man from Long Beach, was also found at the scene with gunshot wounds to his lower body.
He was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
The investigation into Robinson's death revealed that he was fatally shot during an altercation. Despite the immediate response from law enforcement, the motive for the shooting remained unclear initially. However, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) conducted an intensive investigation that led to the identification and arrest of three suspects approximately a month later. On November 7, 2017, Brandon Vincent Davis, Darshay Holland, and Ricky Lee Vaughn were arrested in connection with the murder.
Brandon Vincent Davis was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder, with his bail set at $4,040,000. Darshay Holland faced charges of witness intimidation with a gang enhancement, and her bail was set at $1,040,000. Ricky Lee Vaughn was charged with being an ex-felon in possession of a handgun, also with a gang enhancement, and his bail was set at $135,000. All three suspects were held at the Los Angeles County Jail as the legal proceedings continued.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which filed the respective charges against the suspects. The arrests and subsequent charges brought some measure of closure to the investigation, although the exact circumstances and motivations behind the shooting were still being examined.
