Tiffani Kjeldergaard, a 49-year-old resident of San Diego, California, tragically lost her life on January 4, 2018, in a murder-suicide incident. Kjeldergaard was known for her vibrant personality, love for animals, and involvement in a heavy metal band. She was also recognized by the Guinness World Records for having the world's shortest cat. On the night of her death, Kjeldergaard was fatally shot by 59-year-old Kenneth Everhart during an argument at an apartment complex in Point Loma.
Everhart subsequently turned the gun on himself, resulting in his own death. The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire from residents at the Pacific Breeze Apartments on Adrian Street.
Upon arrival, officers found Kjeldergaard unresponsive in a hallway at the top of a stairway, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to revive her through CPR, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside an apartment on the second floor, officers discovered Everhart with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The SDPD Homicide detectives ruled the incident a murder-suicide, although the exact motive behind the argument that led to the shooting remains unclear. It was determined that Kjeldergaard and Everhart were not in a romantic relationship.
The investigation into the incident did not reveal any additional suspects, and no further arrests were made. The SDPD's response included a significant police presence, including SWAT units, due to initial concerns that there might be other suspects involved. However, the apartment was cleared, and no other individuals were found to be connected to the shooting. Friends and family of Kjeldergaard were left searching for answers, mourning the loss of a woman remembered for her intelligence, humor, and unique character.
