Julieta Arvizu, a 49-year-old Latina, was found dead on October 11, 2018, in Littlerock, California. Her body was discovered on a property located in the 30900 block of East 106th Street in the southeast Antelope Valley community. The discovery was part of a larger investigation that revealed five decomposed bodies on the property, which was linked to a suspected drug dealer, Jesus "Chuy" Guzman. Guzman, who rented the house, was evicted on August 30, 2018, the same day Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators served a search warrant there. During the search, investigators found evidence of methamphetamine production, weapons, and stolen vehicles. However, it wasn't until October 11 that the remains of Arvizu and two other individuals were found. Additional partial remains were discovered on the property around October 22.
Julieta Arvizu, along with her boyfriend Cuauhtemoc Lara and their friend Jose Jorge Lara Paez, went missing on January 14, 2018. The trio had been living together in a trailer near Pearblossom Highway and 72nd Street East in Littlerock. Family members and investigators suspected foul play after the three friends left behind all their possessions and had no activity on their cellphones following their disappearance. In April 2018, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for their disappearance.
Jesus "Chuy" Guzman, a 34-year-old Latino, became a prime suspect in the case. Guzman, who was known to frequent Littlerock, Adelanto, Victorville, Riverside, and Compton, was also wanted for questioning in connection with other homicides, including the February 20 shooting deaths of Mariano Panduro Campos and Gerardo "Jerry" De Luna. Guzman was considered armed and dangerous, and authorities described him as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Despite extensive efforts to locate him, Guzman remained at large for several months.
The investigation took a significant turn when Guzman was tracked down by U.S. Marshals near the California-Nevada border on November 8, 2018.
