Trejean Malik Williams Cullors, a 22-year-old resident of Beaumont, California, tragically lost his life on October 15, 2018. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Cullors was found lying in the street near 5th Street and Beaumont Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Cullors succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The initial investigation by the Beaumont Police Department revealed that witnesses had heard gunshots and observed a vehicle speeding away from the scene.

The investigation quickly led to the identification and arrest of Alyais Lavante Jahneal Harper, a 20-year-old gang member from Beaumont. Harper was apprehended by the Riverside County Gang Impact Team (GIT) in Oceanside, California, just two days after the shooting. He was initially charged with attempted murder and felony discharge of a firearm, but these charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder following Cullors' death. Harper's arrest marked a significant breakthrough in the case, as it provided the authorities with a suspect who had a known history of gang-related activities.

The legal proceedings against Harper were extensive and culminated in a trial where he was found guilty of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. The jury also found special circumstances related to gang membership and firearm enhancements to be true. On August 18, 2023, Harper was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 130 years to life. This sentence was handed down by Judge Matthew Perantoni at the Hall of Justice in Banning, California, following emotional statements from Cullors' family members.

Throughout the investigation and trial, the Beaumont Police Department and the Riverside County District Attorney's Office worked diligently to ensure justice for Cullors and his family. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gang violence in the region and underscored the importance of community cooperation in solving such crimes. The successful prosecution of Harper was seen as a significant victory for law enforcement and a step towards reducing gang-related violence in Beaumont and surrounding areas.
