On June 11, 2011, 22-year-old Marvin Watts was tragically shot and killed in New Orleans while sitting inside his car near Carrollton and Walmsley avenues, close to Archbishop Gregory Aymond’s residence. The shooter was believed to be a passenger in Watts' car who fled the scene on foot after the shooting. His murder was one of four homicides that occurred within a 17-hour period that weekend, illustrating a grim pattern of violence that plagued New Orleans at the time.
