On the morning of her death, Sandra was at home with her children when her former boyfriend, Ramon Ramirez Gomez, 31, arrived at the house armed with a gun. Gomez was reportedly searching for Sandra's current boyfriend. When he couldn't find him, Gomez turned his aggression towards Sandra, shooting her multiple times in front of her children.
The horrifying incident unfolded around 11 a.m. Sandra's son, in a brave act, grabbed his younger sister and fled the house. A passerby noticed the boy running with the toddler in his arms and stopped to help. The boy identified Gomez as the shooter, prompting the passerby to call 911. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Sandra in the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds. Gomez was discovered in a bedroom at the rear of the house with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both Sandra and Gomez were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:18 a.m.
The investigation into Sandra's death revealed that Gomez had a history of violence and had previously been in a relationship with Sandra. The tragic event left the community in shock, particularly because it occurred in a home that also served as a daycare, a place meant to be safe for children. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department conducted a thorough investigation, and the case was classified as a murder-suicide.
