of Paul Charles Weinberger, who had previously evicted another resident, Freddy Sosa, following a dispute. Weinberger later sought Sosa's assistance in forcibly removing Mendivil from the home. Sosa, in turn, enlisted the help of Carlos Yslas and Pedro Ramirez. On the night of the incident, Weinberger claimed he was drugged and coerced into withdrawing cash to pay Yslas and Ramirez for their involvement in the eviction. During the confrontation, Yslas, believing Mendivil was reaching for a weapon, shot him twice, resulting in Mendivil's death.
