Jose Guadalupe Vera, an 18-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on June 16, 2019, in Wilmington, Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records, the incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. near West Anaheim Street and Island Avenue. Vera was standing outside a bank, talking on his cellphone, when a silver compact sedan drove by, parked nearby, and a passenger exited the vehicle. The passenger then began shooting at Vera.
Nearby residents heard the gunshots and promptly called the police. Unfortunately, Vera was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:25 a.m.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an investigation into Vera's death, seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect or suspects responsible for the shooting. Despite efforts to gather information, including appeals to the public for tips and offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers, the case remains unsolved. The LAPD's Harbor Area Homicide Detectives have been actively working on the case, but no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
