Byron Scales, a 61-year-old resident of Oakland, was tragically shot to death on the night of July 16, 2019, in Richmond, California. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near the intersection of 18th Street and Chansor Avenue. Police responded to the scene after receiving alerts from the ShotSpotter gun detection system, which indicated gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Scales lying on the ground in a lot.
