Gregory Joseph Sanchez, a 17-year-old from Coalinga, California, tragically lost his life on January 15, 2020. Gregory was a passenger in a Honda Fit traveling south on Highway 145 near Five Points when the vehicle was ambushed by another car. The assailants opened fire, striking Gregory in the lower body and his 18-year-old cousin in the arm. The driver, uninjured, managed to reach a nearby California Highway Patrol officer for help. Despite being airlifted to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford, Gregory succumbed to his injuries.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the shooting, which they believe was gang-related. The attack was not considered random, and detectives sought information from the public to identify the suspects and their vehicle. The incident left shattered glass and bullet holes in the Honda Fit, marking the violent encounter that led to Gregory's untimely death.
