She and her twin sister, Leah Sylvania Christopher, were fatally shot in their home by Dwayne Edward Groves Jr., the ex-boyfriend of their mother, Joann Hoyt. The incident occurred at their Central Avenue residence, where Groves also assaulted Hoyt's 22-year-old son with a firearm.
The attack was premeditated, as Groves had called Hoyt shortly before arriving at the house, indicating he had "figured it all out and had a plan."
