Thongpath Luangkoth, aged 47, was one of seven victims in a tragic mass murder that occurred on September 7, 2020, in Aguanga, California. The incident took place at an illegal marijuana grow house located on the 45000 block of Highway 371. Riverside County deputies responded to reports of an assault at the residence around 12:33 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered six individuals who had been fatally shot and one woman who was critically injured.
The woman was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. All seven victims, including Thongpath Luangkoth, were of Laotian descent and were involved in the illegal marijuana operation at the site.
The property where the murders occurred was being used to manufacture and harvest marijuana illegally. Authorities found over 1,000 pounds of processed marijuana and several hundred marijuana plants at the scene. The operation was described as highly organized and not a small-scale endeavor. The victims were identified as Khamphour Nanthavongdovane, 53; Vikham Silimanotham, 64; Phone Chankhamany, 54; Khamtoune Silimanotham, 59; Souphanh Pienthiene, 48; Thongpath Luangkoth, 47; and Samantha Sourignasak, 44. Many of the victims were recent immigrants from Laos who were struggling to find employment and had been living and working at the grow site.
The investigation into the murders revealed that the incident was likely a targeted attack involving gang members of Laotian descent from the San Diego area. The case was initially labeled as a home invasion robbery, although nothing was reported stolen from the scene. Investigators identified a mid-size dark-colored SUV as one of the vehicles used in the shooting. Despite numerous leads and efforts to track down the suspects, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. Authorities continue to seek information from the public to help solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In December 2024, new clues emerged, suggesting that the murders were connected to a Laotian criminal street gang. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco held a press conference to provide updates on the case, emphasizing the organized nature of the crime and the ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible. The sheriff's department has urged anyone with information about the case or the suspects to come forward and assist in the investigation. Despite the passage of time, the pursuit of justice for Thongpath Luangkoth and the other victims continues, with investigators remaining committed to solving this heinous crime.
