The property where the murders occurred was found to house over 1,000 pounds of processed marijuana and several hundred marijuana plants, indicating a large-scale illegal operation. The victims were identified as five women and two men, all recent immigrants from Laos who were struggling to find employment and had been working at the grow site to make a living.

In December 2024, new clues emerged, suggesting that the murders were a targeted incident involving gang members of Laotian descent from the San Diego area. The case was labeled a 'home invasion robbery,' although nothing was reported stolen from the property.
