On October 2, 2020, 26-year-old Jose Bautista from Modesto, California, was tragically found dead in Stockton. Bautista, along with 23-year-old Nateja Bragg, was discovered inside a car near Kansas Street and Lever Boulevard. Both victims had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The car, which was facing the wrong direction, was still running when officers arrived at the scene. Bautista had traveled to Stockton with the intention of purchasing a car he had found online, but he never returned home.
