Perry Zebulon Bailey, a 34-year-old resident of McKinleyville, California, tragically lost his life on November 15, 2020, in Samoa, CA. On that fateful night, deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to New Navy Base Road near the Milwaukee Memorial following reports of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, they found Bailey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, Bailey succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation revealed that Bailey had approached an occupied parked vehicle when someone inside the vehicle fired multiple gunshots at him before fleeing the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a matte, dark-colored, older model two-door coupe, possibly with tinted rear windows and damage to the driver side window and door. The suspects were initially described as a white male adult wearing glasses and possibly a female adult.
The investigation into Bailey's death quickly escalated into a homicide case. The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office sought the public's assistance in gathering information related to the incident. In the following weeks, significant developments occurred. On December 18, 2020, Ian Rose, also known as Ian Pease, was arrested in Crescent City after a brief pursuit by California Highway Patrol officers. Rose, 30, was taken into custody on suspicion of accessory to murder, evading a peace officer, driving without a license, and resisting a peace officer. He was booked into the Del Norte County Correctional Facility. Earlier in the month, another suspect, Travontae Javoni Hutson from Eureka, had also been arrested in connection with the case.
The arrests of Rose and Hutson marked critical steps in the ongoing investigation. The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office continued to gather evidence and encouraged anyone with information about the case to come forward. The community's cooperation was deemed essential in bringing justice to Bailey and his family.
