Alejandro Camacho, aged 45, tragically lost his life on December 26, 2020, in Murrieta, California, during a violent home invasion. The incident occurred in the La Cresta area, where Camacho was staying at a residence. On the morning after Christmas, three men, identified as Dong Yang, Michael Tong Shun Zhang, and Wang Lin, allegedly attempted to rob the home. The situation quickly escalated into a gunfight between the intruders and the occupants of the house. During the exchange of gunfire, both Wang Lin and Alejandro Camacho were fatally shot. Zhang and another occupant of the house sustained injuries and were taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department conducted an extensive investigation, leading to the arrest of Dong Yang, who was identified as the driver during and after the robbery. Yang faced charges of armed robbery, first-degree burglary, and a sentence-enhancing gun use allegation. He was held on $150,000 bail. Michael Tong Shun Zhang, who had a prior felony conviction for burglary, was charged with two counts of murder, including the death of his accomplice, Wang Lin, under California's felony murder rule. Zhang also faced charges of attempted murder and burglary, with bail set at $1 million.
