18 year old murdered in broad daylight On a partly sunny Thursday afternoon, February 21, 2013, in the Irish Channel neighborhood of New Orleans, 18-year-old Nolan 'Nemo' Gemo Alofipo was visiting friends. An African-American male, Nolan and his family had recently moved downtown but had previously lived in this area. Earlier that day, he had spoken with his sister, Thelma, and mentioned his plans to return to their old neighborhood.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the afternoon was shattered by the sound of multiple gunshots.
The gunfire was so loud that it triggered a nearby house alarm and woke a neighbor from a nap. When residents and police arrived at the scene in the 2800 block of Chippewa Street, they found Nolan lying in the middle of the street. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe Nolan was standing near a truck when the shooting began and collapsed as he tried to flee.
In the months following the shooting, authorities released surveillance images of four men exiting and entering a white vehicle near the scene. Detectives stated that these individuals were not considered suspects but were wanted for questioning. To date, there has been no motive established for the murder of Nolan Alofipo, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. Nolan, a father of two, was remembered by his family as a loving and nice person.
