According to investigators, Johnson and his friends were approached by an armed suspect who produced a handgun and began firing in their direction. Johnson was fatally struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records confirm that Johnson died from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
The investigation into Johnson's death revealed that the suspect fled the scene in a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser, which was missing two front hubcaps, had oxidation on the roof, and a sticker on the lower left corner of the rear window. Despite the detailed description of the vehicle, the case remains unsolved. Homicide detectives believe the shooting was gang-related, but they emphasized that Johnson was an innocent victim caught in the crossfire. Johnson's mother, Movita Johnson-Harrell, has been actively seeking justice for her son, urging anyone with information to come forward. A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Johnson's murder.
