Ulises Andrade Ayala, aged 42, tragically lost his life on April 26, 2021, in Willits, California. His death was the result of a violent incident at a marijuana grow site on Sherwood Road. The investigation revealed that Ayala, along with another victim, Anwar Ayala Rodriguez, was murdered by Christopher Wayne Gamble. The crime scene was gruesome, with both victims found beheaded, and their severed heads were never recovered by law enforcement.
Christopher Wayne Gamble, aged 48, was
arrested and charged with the murders. The Mendocino County Superior Court found Gamble guilty of the second-degree murder of Ulises Andrade Ayala and the first-degree murder of Anwar Ayala Rodriguez. The jury also found true the special allegations that Gamble personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, causing the deaths of both victims. Additionally, Gamble was convicted of felony animal abuse for harming and killing roosters found at the crime scene.
The trial concluded with Gamble receiving a severe sentence. For the second-degree murder of Ulises Andrade Ayala, he was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison, with an additional 25 years to life for the firearm enhancement. For the first-degree murder of Anwar Ayala Rodriguez, Gamble was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, plus another 25 years to life for the firearm enhancement. Furthermore, he received a 16-month sentence for the felony animal abuse charge, to be served consecutively. In total, Gamble was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 66 years in prison.
The investigation and subsequent trial were supported by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office, the Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force, the Department of Justice crime laboratory, and the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation.
