Jason Jose Cortez Nativi, a 29-year-old photographer from Virginia, tragically lost his life on September 10, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. Jason was shot while hiking in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, a popular nature reserve in the Montecito Heights area. He had traveled to Los Angeles to work on a photography project with a friend. The incident occurred in the afternoon, and according to witnesses, the shot was fired from a rifle by a suspect hiding in the bushes approximately 75 to 100
feet away. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records confirmed that Jason died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.
The investigation into Jason's death revealed that the shooting appeared to be a random act of violence with no clear motive. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) described the incident as a senseless killing, with no known connections between Jason and the suspect. A witness provided a description of the shooter, who was identified as a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. Despite efforts by the LAPD, including the release of a composite sketch and a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved.
Jason's family and friends have been deeply affected by his untimely death. His wife, Corina Solorzano, and his parents have made public appeals for information to help solve the case. They have expressed their grief and frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation. The family has also set up a website to honor Jason's memory and to seek justice for his murder. The LAPD continues to urge anyone with information about the case to come forward, hoping that new leads will eventually bring the perpetrator to justice.
