Gurpreet Marahar, a 36-year-old resident of Clovis, California, tragically lost her life following a shooting incident on January 11, 2022. The incident occurred at Clovis Hookah & Cigarettes, where Marahar was working at the time. She was shot multiple times by Harmanpreet Singh, a 27-year-old from Fresno. The shooting was not a random act of violence but was linked to a previous dating relationship between Marahar and Singh.
This connection ruled out robbery as a motive, pointing instead to a personal conflict.
Following the shooting, Marahar was immediately transported to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno, where she fought for her life. Despite the medical team's efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on January 14, 2022. The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office officially identified her as the victim, and her death was a significant blow to the local community.
In the wake of Marahar's death, the Clovis Police Department upgraded the charges against Singh from attempted homicide to homicide. Singh was arrested at his residence in Fresno without further incident and was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
